Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in Honduras
Sergio Aguinada, the Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Honduras, is focused on creating a common vision and action among the UN entities, to improve the well-being of the population of Honduras. Under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator, Sergio led the design and formulation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2022-2026) by engaging the UN country team to draw multiple future scenarios for the country.
In the aftermath of two consecutive tropical storms, Eta and Iota, in 2021, Sergio led the UN effort to formulate the national Reconstruction and Sustainable Development Plan and brought voices of various stakeholders including Afro-descendants and indigenous peoples. This facilitated the Plan to incorporate perspectives of the populations furthest left behind, and enabled the participation of representatives of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, as well as women and youth. The plan also created a forum for key development partners, such as the European Union, the Inter-American Development Bank, and various UN entities to coordinate their support to the Government. Sergio also supports the Government in establishing a national anti-corruption commission, a priority in the Cooperation Framework, by helping them bring in local and other key entities onboard, and mobilizing financial resources.
