Economist in Cameroon

Sunday Khan is the economist in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Cameroon.

He supports the Resident Coordinator and UNCT with various socio-economic analyses. Thanks to his leadership on the impact assessment of the Ukraine crisis, the Resident Coordinator could share the identified potential impact and short-, medium- and long-term policy implications to Cameroon with the Prime Minister. Based on the positive feedback and the consequent request from the Minister of the Economy and Planning, Sunday and the team are planning to conduct a follow-up analysis to assess the impact of the mitigation measures of that impact together with Government counterparts and the International Financial Institutions.

Also, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he coordinated the SDG Advisory Group - a UN inter-agency think-tank in Cameroon - to conduct an analysis of the socio-economic impact of the pandemic and to elaborate the UN’s collective COVID-19 socio-economic response plan. Since 2021, Sunday has also been conducting and presenting an analysis of the national budget with implications for UN work in Cameroon and key advocacy messages to the UN country team. The initial analysis was well appreciated by UN entities in Cameroon and is now conducted jointly with the SDG Advisory Group that Sunday coordinates.
