Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in Kenya
Ulrika Ferenius, the Head of Resident Coordinator's Office in Kenya, supports and coordinates the work of the UN in Kenya to spur the green transition and help the Government achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator, she was instrumental in supporting the UN country team to prepare the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Kenya (2022-2026) through multi-stakeholder consultations. Thanks to this inclusive process, the Cooperation Framework has joint ownership of the UN and the Government, and various development partners and representatives from groups at highest risk of being left behind such as children and youth; women and girls; people living in arid and semi-arid lands; and those living in urban informal settlements.
Ulrika also led the establishment of a first-ever SDG Multi Partner Trust Fund in Kenya, a pooled funding to implement the Cooperation Framework through some 15 Joint Programmes in the areas identified as priorities under the Cooperation Framework. The design process of the Joint Programmes was truly inclusive and collaborative, with the participation of UN entities, the Government and other stakeholders. Through the coordination by the Resident Coordinator’s Office under Ulrika’s leadership, the UN team in Kenya intends to increase the proportion of joint programmes from 15 to 50% of the Cooperation Framework over four years.
