Communications Officer in Turkmenistan

Meet Mahri Eyeberdiyeva, the Communications Officer in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Turkmenistan. Mahri’s passion is making people care about the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals, communicating in the different languages spoken in the country to ensure no one is left behind. Mahri developed and launched the first UN Country Team website - turkmenistan.un.org - in Russian and Turkmen.

In one click, anyone can get a clear picture of the UN’s work in the country, whatever the entity involved in advancing different SDGs, drawing from the central UN data platform uninfo.org. This improved transparency and accountability ensures a clear picture of the locations in which the UN operates, the financial resources they receive and the partners with which they work. Since its launch, nearly 70 per cent of the users read the website in Russian, compared with just 23 per cent in the original English version. In Turkmen, the number of pageviews has increased by over 200 per cent since the multilingual website was launched in 2020, compared with to 5 per cent in 2020.
