Communications Officer in Honduras

As the Communications and Advocacy officer in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Honduras, Maria Elena Calix enables the UN team to convey hope and solutions to the people of the country and position the UN as a key partner for the country’s peace, security and development through joint communications efforts.  

Maria Elena is playing a key role in helping the UN strengthen its digital presence and engagement through social media and UN team website. This includes the creative use of TikTok by the UN's Resident Coordinator to advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals, including protecting the environment, promoting youth participation in decision-making and women's rights. This account has already reached 10.8k followers in less than a year. The success of this initiative led to the creation of a UN team TikTok account which will be launched in 2023 with the goal of sharing content from all the UN entities in the country.
