Leaving no one behind in the Dominican Republic’s COVID-19 response

During the most critical part of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Resident Coordinator in the Dominican Republic, Mauricio Ramírez Villegas, convened together with Government institutions a broad coalition of development partners, including the World Bank, the European Union, the Inter-American Development Bank and government institutions to conduct a COVID-19 recovery needs assessment. Thanks to this assessment, the Government and its development partners were able to access reliable information about the socio-economic and humanitarian impacts of the pandemic and use this data to prepare a national recovery strategy to leave no one behind.

Alongside this needs assessment, under his leadership, the UN country team and partners provided the Government a range of policy recommendations and expertise to support the design and formulation of its current national development plan and ensure its close alignment with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
