Partnerships Officer in North Macedonia

How can the Partnerships Officer in a Resident Coordinator Office connect efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an upper middle-income country?  Meet Lilian Kandikjan, who works in her native North Macedonia. She facilitates the design of UN-wide joint programmes by bringing multiple UN entities together to build multi-stakeholder partnerships to solve complex development challenges, applying innovative approaches.

For example, Lilian coordinated various stakeholders for the design of a new blended finance mechanism, the Green Financing Facility, which brings together three UN entities, an international financing institution, most of the private banks in the country, and multiple departments of the Government.  The facility leveraged private financing and mobilized USD46 million to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions among small and medium size enterprises and underserved households in her country. Further, she supports the Resident Coordinator to convene the UN country team to jointly define strategic approaches on resource mobilization and partnerships for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and promotes research and awareness raising on SDG, including promotion of sustainable finance, sustainable business reporting and corporate environmental, social and governance standards.
