Providing joint action and financing for sustainable development in Burundi

* This Resident Coordinator performed functions in Burundi from 2021-2023.

Thanks to enhanced coordination and Resident Coordinator’s leadership, the UN country team has been working closely with national authorities and all development stakeholders, recently completing a new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework – a roadmap for the work of the UN in the country, over the next five years, agreed between the UN and the Government of Burundi. A multi-partner trust fund was also established to support joint implementation of the Cooperation Framework.

Given Burundi’s vulnerabilities, the Resident Coordinator ensured that this roadmap for sustainable development focuses on building greater resilience to climate shocks, as well as transforming food systems, diversifying the economy and improving access to development financing. Most recently, an Integrated National Financing Framework was developed to help accelerate Burundi’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
