Rallying UN Entities and Partners to support Sustainable Development in the Maldives

*This Resident Coordinator performed functions in the Maldives from 2019 to 2023

As well as streamlining the work of UN agencies, the Resident Coordinator in the Maldives has played a critical role in convening Member States, donors, civil society and academia together in support of the Government’s key national development priorities. Most recently, the Resident Coordinator leveraged her position as an impartial and trusted leader to bring together the country’s top universities to develop a joint strategy on integrating academia into the work to advance  the 2030 Agenda.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the UN country team’s coordinated support to the Government of the Maldives proved critical. Under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator, agencies across the UN country team rapidly adjusted their strategy to deliver a coherent emergency response and helped the Maldives become one of the countries to receive funding from two rounds of the Covid-19 multi partner trust fund.
