Economist in Zimbabwe

Tafadzwa Bandama is the Economist in the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Zimbabwe and has been providing technical support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) through economic, social and humanitarian analysis, to better informing UN programmes and public policies aimed at supporting national authorities to tackle poverty, gender inequality, unemployment and inclusion of people living with disabilities so that no one is left behind.

In 2022, during the national budget consultation process, Tafadzwa coordinated joint meetings between UN entities and the Government and facilitated the development of policy proposals by the UNCT, that were used to inform the 2023 Fiscal Policy. Free and comprehensive education, enhancing social protection and increasing health and water and sanitation budgets and further durable jobs and investments in the poor, were some of the key focus areas of these policies.

Tafadzwa also works closely with policy advisors to analyse fiscal and monetary policy implementation for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thus building the case, formulating, and implementing inclusive and resilient development programmes. Tafadzwa also monitors regional and global economic trends such as the impact of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine and provides technical support to the UNCT on implications of geo-political and economic developments for the realisation of the SDGs at country level.
