Economist in The Republic of Congo

In response to the global food and energy crisis resulting from the war in Ukraine, Trésor Boula Alany, the economist in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Congo, coordinated a team of 10 UN agencies to assess the impact on the Congolese economy. Specifically, they looked at the potential repercussions on households and vulnerable populations and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thanks to this work, the UN country team has helped the Government simulate economic support and recovery policies.

In a country where the informal economy is predominant, a key focus of Trésor’s work is collaborating with other UN agencies to improve access to sustainable food products and scale-up up income-generating activities. In this capacity, he coordinates a United Nations Joint SDG Fund project, implemented by three UN agencies (UNDP, UNICEF and UNIDO), to effectively strengthen assistance mechanisms, and identify innovative solutions for the social protection of actors in the informal sector.

Trésor also played a key role in supporting the UN Country Team in providing analytical economic support for the alignment of the UN Development Assistance Framework 2020-2024 with national development priorities.

In addition, Trésor contributes to strengthening coordination through efforts to localize the SDGs. During the development of the Voluntary Local Review (VLR), he led the organization of local consultations in the city of Brazzaville to strengthen the leadership capacities of local authorities on the SDGs and understand the progress made, the gaps and the challenges to improve policies, coordination and relationships.
