Economist in Burundi

Meet Ochozias, the Economist in Burundi, who has been working to support the country’s economic integration and path towards sustainable development after years of conflict and isolation.

Capitalizing on his experience at the Economic Commission for Africa, Ochozias helps integrate the perspectives and contributions of regional institutions into UN country level analyses. Ochozias mobilized expertise from across the UN country team to analyse the impact of the war in Ukraine on Burundi, including on the country’s growth trajectory and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As an economist, Ochozias is the main focal point for the coordination of macroeconomic interventions and monitoring of the SDGs. He supports both the UN country team and government counterparts through tailored advice on national and regional economic issues. He also advises the Resident Coordinator and the country team on economic policies towards the achievement of the SDGs.
