Data Management Officer in Malawi

Rudolf Nkhata is the Data Management Officer in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in his native Malawi. Rudolf’s role primarily involves providing system-wide coordination support to the UN entities in Malawi through various inter-agency mechanisms in strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the UN’s collective contribution in Malawi.

He is proud to have coordinated UN-wide support to the Government through the UN Data Group in undertaking a mapping of the Management Information Systems available at the national level, which informed the establishment of the Harmonized National Joint Programme. The programme is meant to better integrate available data across different institutions in the country. Rudolf also fostered a partnership with a non-profit organization known as Community Systems Foundation to support the Government in developing the national monitoring dashboard to track progress on the 10-year Malawi Implementation Plan, thereby increasing transparency and accountability.

Rudolf was pivotal in coordinating UN-wide support to the government in collating SDG data and drafting the Voluntary National Reviews which help monitor the progress achieved. In the same vein, he has also supported the UN country team to ensure the 2022 Common Country Analysis is based on evidence and data, helping identify key opportunities and gaps. The analysis, with robust and diverse data sources, provided a comprehensive, impartial assessment of the country, in particular, the needs of vulnerable groups at risk of being left behind, and informed the development of the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2024-2028.
