Data Management Officer in Gabon

Meet Nafy Hélène Mboumba, the Data Management Officer in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Gabon.  Nafy supports the Resident Coordinator in convening UN entities, Government, and other development partners to further align the national development monitoring system with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  Nafy contributed to the establishment of a permanent joint Government-UN SDG Steering Committee in Gabon, co-chaired by the Prime Minister and the UN Resident Coordinator. Under the guidance of the Committee, Nafy coordinates the data experts in the UN country team to support the National Statistics Department to strengthen the data availability. For example, in 2021, Nafy led the SDG alignment review to map the way the Government entities collect and report data.  Thanks to these efforts, Gabon can now report progress on the SDGs against more indicators.  For instance, the country can report on 37% of SDG indicators on gender in 2022, a huge increase from 2020 when 28% of gender related indicators were monitored.  The country’s next National Development Plan (2024-2029) will include the SDG targets for further improved SDG monitoring.

Nafy also coordinates the monitoring of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework through UN INFO, the UN-wide joint programming and monitoring platform, successfully rolled out in Gabon in June 2020 with Nafy’s leadership.  The data she generates is the basis of the bi-annual UN-Government joint sessions to collectively monitor the progress of the Cooperation Framework to make necessary adjustments where needed.

Nafy also supports the global data policy effort through DCO’s data surge team.
