Data Management Officer in Costa Rica

Adriana Sánchez, the Data Management Officer in her native Costa Rica, is proud to be contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through her work to support the UN’s collaboration with the government on SDG data. Adriana coordinates a coalition of UN data experts to support the National Sustainable Development Goas (SDG) Secretariat under the Ministry of Planning and Economic Policy (MIDEPLAN) to improve data quality.

To advance MIDEPLAN’s initiative to develop a Multi-stakeholder Tracking Mechanism, Adriana played a crucial role in convening various stakeholders to collect wider perspectives on the collection and the use of data to help design a mechanism agreeable to all.  As a result, Costa Rica now has a novel information system that 1) generates systematic and periodic reports that detail respective contributions of diverse development actors to the SDGs; 2) integrates non-traditional data sources; and, 3) incorporates new data that has not been collected before in a systematic manner – all in order to support the National SDG Secretariat to make more data-driven decisions and put accountability in place to improve the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
