Communications Officer in Senegal

Papa Cheikh S. Sakho Jimbira is the Communications Officer at the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Senegal where he is responsible for communicating the work and enhancing the visibility of 34 UN agencies that comprise the UN country team in Senegal. To help promote the Sustainable Development Goals across the country and communicate the key results of the UN in Senegal, Papa Cheikh helped launch the SNU Magazine; a quarterly publication which is distributed to key stakeholders including the Government and a variety of national development partners.

In 2020, to mark the 75th anniversary of the UN, Papa Cheikh played a key role in mobilizing the voices and perspectives of 54,000 young people across Senegal through organizing a series of national consultations and dialogues. The results of these consultations helped inform the development of the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2024-2028) and UN Senegal’s ongoing youth strategy.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Papa Cheikh not only helped draft and implement the UN in Senegal’s communication strategy, but also supported the Government develop its own national communication strategy to address the public health and social-economic challenges of the pandemic. As part of these efforts, he initiated several successful communication and community engagement campaigns, including to promote immunization.
