Communications Officer in Guinea-Bissau
Meet Juelma Mendes, the Communications Officer in the Resident Coordinator Office in Guinea-Bissau. Juelma has helped promote the joint efforts of the UN Country Team towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through a number of different channels.
For example, in 2022, the UN in Guinea-Bissau worked with partners to organize a national campaign against polio; which resulted in 99.2% of children being immunized. The campaign gained strong visibility as Guinea-Bissau was the first country in the world to use the new polio oral type 2 vaccine. To support broader SDG advocacy efforts, Juelma helped organize public consultations with key stakeholders across 9 regions of Guinea-Bissau, including women, young people, those with disabilities and various civil society organizations.
Juelma and her communication colleagues also supported in 2022 the global campaign of 75 anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights “Dignity, Freedom and Justice for all” by producing messages and 10 videos of United Nations Representatives that amplified their joint voice on human rights issues. These videos were promoted on various social media platforms of the agencies, funds and programs working in Guinea-Bissau.
