Advancing Education in Kuwait

*This Resident Coordinator performed functions in Kuwait from 2019-2022

The UN country team in Kuwait has worked collectively to advance key development priorities set jointly with the Government, in line with their vision for a “New Kuwait” by 2035. To that end, the Resident Coordination has effectively utilized his convening capacity to leverage both the depth and breadth of UN expertise and the strengths of all partners – from the private sector to civil society and non-governmental organizations – for example to advance education, a key priority for the country.

The UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM/UN-Migration) and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), also working jointly with the World Bank, and coordinated by the Resident Coordinator, have been collectively providing integrated advice and policy support to the Government. Needs have been identified and priorities have been set through policy document and joint workplans. The coordinated work of the UN has contributed in particular to advance girls’ and women’s priorities in education, but also in jobs and leadership in the country. In addition, consultations spearheaded by the Resident Coordinator with all partners in preparation for the Transforming Education Summit, in September 2022, contributed to raise collective ambitions and commitments to the transformation of education globally.
