Providing policy support and technical expertise following economic, social and political reforms in Kazakhstan

In the wake of comprehensive reforms of the economic, social and political sectors in Kazakhstan, the Resident Coordinator has been guiding the UN country team in providing integrated policy advice and implementing strategic and catalytic programmes.

For example, thanks to the leadership and convening role of the Resident Coordinator, the UN country team has helped the Government to articulate a carbon neutrality strategy to transition the country towards a green economy and become carbon neutral by 2060. A gender-themed group has been established together with the National Commission for Women to bring together the Government, civil society and international partners to address women’s issues and advance gender equality across Kazakhstan.

The Resident Coordinator was also critical in working with the Government to organize the temporary relocation in Kazakhstan of colleagues from the UN country team in Afghanistan, amidst the Taliban takeover of the country and its capita in the summer of 2021 – a testament to the multilateral spirit of Kazakhstan.
