DCO serves as the secretariat for the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), which includes 34 UN agencies, funds and programmes working to realize the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
 
The UNSDG facilitates joint policy formation and decision-making, encourages programmatic cooperation and continually seeks management efficiencies within the UN development system. DCO helps to identify, collate, prioritize and follow-up on issues for discussion and decision, and prepares substantive documents and products in support of the UNSDG and its Core Group.

DCO reports to the Deputy Secretary-General in her/his capacity as UNSDG Chair and supports the UNDP Administrator in her/his capacity as UNSDG Vice Chair. DCO also provides direct support to the chairs of subsidiary mechanisms such as the UNSDG Task Teams.
